Abstract
First paragraph: Anti-Catholicism in Britain and Ireland, edited by Claire Gheeraert-Graffeuille and Geraldine Vaughan, traces fluctuating expressions of anti-Catholicism in Britain and Ireland between 1600 and 2000. The excellently curated collection of essays originates in two conferences hosted by the University of Rouen and a workshop which took place at Newcastle University. All three events took place between 2017 and 2018 and the editors express gratitude to those involved for ‘stimulating ideas which helped to build this edited collection’ (p. v). Gheeraert-Graffeuille and Vaughan settle on a loosely chronological division of the contributions into four distinct multi-disciplinary, thematic sections. This lends fluidity to the overall focus on how anti-Catholicism evolved corresponding to time and place across five centuries.
